Self kindness, also known as self compassion. can help us to approach our lives differently. It’s proven that the self kindness reduces anxiety and depression, and makes us feel happier.

Why do we often put ourselves last?

Putting ourselves behind the needs of others is a common problem.
Society teaches us that looking after ourselves, and taking time to put ourselves first is selfish.
We can struggle with self kindness such as eating well, doing things that make us happy and giving ourselves a break when things don’t quite go to plan.
This can often lead to low self esteem, a lack of confidence and spiralling into depression and low mood.

So how can you find a balance in being kind to yourself?

 In this introductory workshop we will cover:
  • Why we find it hard to be kind to ourselves
  • What we do to sabotage our own self care.
  • Learn the subtle ways we sabotage ourselves and how to recognise  and stop them in their tracks!
  • Tools and techniques to help you develop self kindness
We’ll look at how we can be kinder to ourselves and at the end you’ll come out with an action plan to help you continue on your journey to be kinder to yourself.

What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is all about being aware of our thoughts, of living in the present and of being able to observe thoughts without judging them. Mindfulness has been proven to reduce anxiety and depression and to help increase feelings of wellbeing and happiness.
You can learn to be mindful through lots of daily little techniques as well as through meditation.

In this introductory workshop you’ll be able to find out what mindfulness is,  how it can benefit you and have your first meditation!

This workshop is for absolute beginners or those that want a mindful reminder!

We’ll link to other mindful tools such as great books, other courses in York if you want to develop your knowledge and online apps and websites.

Managing Anxiety with Mindfulness

In today’s modern world there are so many competing priorities and daily stresses that more and more of us are suffering with anxiety.

From panic attacks to regular worrying about events that may or may not happen, feeling threatened , frightened and immobilised by worries to the point where you cannot live daily life, anxiety can be debilitating, exhausting and take over your life

But there is hope

Mindfulness can bring relief to anxiety. By learning to accept anxiety, by treating it with compassion, kindness and sometimes curiosity that mindfulness brings

In this workshop we’ll cover:

  • Using breathing techniques to manage symptoms
  • Noticing the anxious thoughts you’re experiencing and observing them and letting them be
  • Learning to do a body scan to connect with our physical selves
  • Identifying and managing stresses and simplifying them to help reduce anxiety
